Obsessive Compulsive Disorder Counselling

Working against OCD

OCD Counselling

Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) is inherited or it can be caused by upbringing or past events. It’s important that the client decides they want to beat OCD, and slowly work towards recognising its debilitating effects in their life and for the people around them.

The key is always to work against it. In counselling, we work on the thought pattern: what is the brain telling the client about what's happening? We find ways to way to help the brain recognise the false patterns of thought that lead to OCD behaviour.

In almost every case, OCD can be improved or even eliminated if the client starts counselling as soon as the first signs appear. Research has shown that the longer OCD is allowed to continue the more it gets anchored and is difficult to diminish.

We work on whichever method of counselling works best for the client, from CBT to psychotherapy.
